Beginning today, the United States Postal Service is releasing 10 new first class 44 cent stamp depicting adopted dogs and cats. The stamps are called Animal Rescue – Adopt a Shelter Pet. They will be showcased in 20 stamp booklets and have 10 different designs.
The US Postal Service is hoping to raise awareness of the need to adopt shelter pets. The pets were photographed by Sally Andersen-Bruce of New Milford, Connecticut. Every pet on a stamp was a homeless pet. At the time of the press release, nine of the pets have found homes.
As a dog trainer, adopting a pet from an animal shelter is a great thing … as long as the dog fits into your family. Unless you absolutely know, I would strongly recommend you “test drive” an animal shelter pet before you agree to become its parent. Of course, as with humans, there are no perfect pets. That is what makes each one of them so special.
You can see the pets at http://www.stampstotherescue.com/thestamps.asp . They are all cute. And you can read each one’s story by highlighting it.Apr 30, 2010 | | Dog News
